Can I just say that taking pictures of friends is kind of stressful?
I am very critical of myself and I can't shake the fear that they will hate my work but not know how to tell me and then hang the pictures up just because they know I am coming over.
Recently, I have had a few different friends ask me to take pictures for them even though I am in no way a professional.
Newborns are fun but throw some adults in there are I totally get nervous.
I don't know why.
Anyway, good thing my friend Colleen has such a pretty family and such a laid back attitude.
It was easy to get some good shots of her (and her big belly), her hubby, and their cutie pie, Jude.
She promised me she wouldn't expect professional quality and would be happy just to document this pregnancy in some way.
Phew.
Still though, I agonized over these images.
I almost called Colleen to ask for a re-do.
Christian kept saying, "Heather, stop messing with those pictures. They look great."
And I would whine, "But they don't look 'professional'".
Finally he said, "Try adding a watermark."
So I did.
Almost as a joke.
But he was right.
It tricks the eye into thinking they are serious business, even though it's just the not-at-all-serious name of my blog.
Hmmm...
Thoughts?
It was hard to find a time to for our little photo shoot since it's summer and the sun stays high in the sky right up until Jude's bedtime.
I shot mostly in the shade, but this is one example of how harsh back lighting can turn out pretty:
I just love this family.
They are always smiling and laughing.
Their joy is infectious.
Jude and his future little sister are two lucky kiddos.
Okay, Colleen, thanks for putting up with my nerves and for being so gracious.
Thanks also for having such a cute belly and making your hair blow ever so perfectly in the wind.
You're the best.
Can't wait to meet that sweet baby GIRL!
Xoxo.

So beautiful!! I love them Heather! The watermark definitely worked to make them look more professional but the photos themselves are enough! :)

ReplyDeleteSuch sweet pictures! I am another lurker who just happened upon your blog. Love all your DIY projects and also Henry's nursery pics! Your family is adorable :-) May I ask what camera/lens you use?
ReplyDeleteHi there! I have a canon rebel t2i. I usually shoot with my cheap canon 50 mm lens. It's an easy lens to shoot in manual with! :)
